The Program

The apprenticeship at UA Local 551 will be for a term of 5 years with 8,500 hours of on the job learning with related class room instruction. Basics requirements are you must be 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license, a high school graduate or have successfully completed a GED program. You must pass a screening for use of Illegal drugs as well as complete a basic skills aptitude test. Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 551 provides a competitive wage and benefits package that includes health and welfare coverage as well as a local pension and national pension. First year apprentices start at 40% of journeyman’s wage, with wage increases paid progressively through the apprenticeship based on the acquisition of increased skill and competence on the job and in related instruction.
